Something for Jenelyn
November 28, 2007 Heaven has gained an angel today. Jenelyn passed away this morning at PGH. God bless her good soul.
Sometime in February 2006, Jenelyn read an article about this website from a magazine at her school library. The story was about cancer survivors. Jenelyn herself is suffering from nasopharyngeal cancer, and needs help with her treatment.
She wrote me to seek financial aid for her treatment.
Like Carla, our first beneficiary, Jenelyn, a college student, can't afford the treatment on her own. It's not like someone will come along and say "Hey, Jenelyn, we'll take care of everything! Don't worry about the expenses!" Or maybe someone will. But in the meantime, this idea embedded in the OurOwnLittleWay website is there to plant the seed of generosity in our fellowmen:
What if we each give just a little bit?
I'd like to help Jenelyn but I can only do so much on my own.
But what if each one gave just a little bit? And what if there were a lot of us giving just a little bit?
Surely, that will amount to something.
So here I am...
I didn’t know Jenelyn until she emailed me about a week ago (Feb 2006). But I admire the kid’s determination to beat this disease. I am impressed by her guts, her courage and her resourcefulness in seeking ways to help fund her studies as well as her treatment. I want to start off by putting in 1,000 pesos of my own. That alone won't do much. There are no details yet for the cost of the treatment.
Pitch In.
Give something. Any amount will do, 100 pesos, 500 pesos, a thousand, maybe more.
Give something that's easy on your pocket. Give something that comes fully from your heart. Give just a little bit so you can help someone else tomorrow.
I don't want this to be a burden to anyone. We all have our own share of problems to deal with. Fact is, Jenelyn has gone through much of this without involving others because she doesn't want to be a burden to anyone either. Her family will be with her all throughout this ordeal. And maybe, in our own little way, we can do something for her, too.
Next time it could be you.
When we started this website in September 2004, it was all for Carla and we said next time, it could be for somebody else. So for now, this is all for Jenelyn.
The main premise here is to get a little help from a lot of people to help one person.
Today, we help Jenelyn, just as we helped Carla. Tomorrow, we still hope to help someone else.
This is our own little way.
